Travis Snider is a BP Wizard

The Great Big Giant Pasty White HopeTM Travis Snider added to his resume last night, winning the 2008 Irving Oil Home Run Derby. And for our eastern Canadian friends, yeah, it's THAT Irving Oil, so we think that Trav might have just won himself a hot turkey sandwich at the Irving Big Stop of his choice. (We recommend the one just outside of Moncton as a great hangover cure.)

Check out this video (courtesy the New Hampshire Union Leader) of Snider's Derby exploits, including his awesome All Hail Me victory bat flip, which would make even Manny Ramirez blush.

His swing is Manny-esque - albeit from the other side of the plate. Wouldn't that be great...

What's really funny is that because this is the AA All-Star Game, he has to go pick up his own bat after his flip.

Awesome.

snider's a portly fellow. but darren's right, that swing does look pretty fackin sweet.

and tao, him picking up his own bat was pretty awesome. double A at it's finest.

if the season's a wash come september, are we bringing this kid up?

That swing is buttah, nonchalant, like Manny indeed. And is that "Life is a Highway" playing in the back? Nice.

But no, he shouldn't be brought up this season or even next season. He still strikes out way too much for AA. Even a fast-track guy from college like Ryan Braun didn't come up til he was 23. High-schooler Prince Fielder spent almost 4 years in the minors. Snider is still 20! If he improves in the 2nd half of this season at AA, then I'd move him up to AAA for half of next season and then bring him up but only if he's dominating. You can't strike out more than once a game in AA and expect to be good in the majors. He's only OPSing 805 right now in AA so he needs to dominate before a promotion to any other level. I think we'll even see Arencibia before we see Snider.

He's coming up in september. But september call ups don't mean a thing. Everybody calls up some AA studs come september.

I don't know what to do. A power hitting prospect? How should I feel? This is strange territory.
